The Plot: Black Soldiers in the Rhodesian Army: Colonialism, Professionalism, and Race Introduction: In the midst of Zimbabwe's war of liberation (1965-1980) between Zimbabwean nationalists and the minority white Rhodesian settler-colonial regime, thousands of black soldiers volunteered to serve in the Rhodesian Army. Despite this apparent paradox, scholars and military researchers have paid little attention to the experiences of these black Rhodesian veterans. In "Black Soldiers in the Rhodesian Army: Colonialism, Professionalism, and Race we delve into the lives of these brave men and women, challenging our understanding of colonialism, race, and professionalism. Chapter 1: The Paradox of Black Soldiers in the Rhodesian Army We begin by examining the seemingly contradictory phenomenon of black soldiers fighting for a regime that oppressed their communities.
