A Thousand Miles to Freedom: My Escape from North Korea As I sit here, penning down my story, I am filled with a sense of purpose and responsibility. My name is Eunsun Kim, and I was born in the most secretive and oppressive country in the modern world - North Korea. Growing up, I loved my country, despite the daily self-criticism sessions, public executions, and the increasing gnaw of hunger as the countrywide famine escalated. However, by the time I was eleven years old, my father and grandparents had died of starvation, and I too was in danger of starving. It was then that my mother decided to escape North Korea with me and my sister, not knowing that our journey would take us nine long years to complete. Before finally reaching South Korea and freedom, we would live homeless, fall into the hands of Chinese human traffickers, survive a North Korean labor camp, and cross the deserts of Mongolia on foot. But today, I share my remarkable story to give voice to the tens of millions of North Koreans still suffering in silence.
Chamo-me Yongsun Kim e nasci no país mais reservado e opressivo do mundo moderno, a Coreia do Norte.
