Books Without Borders in Enlightenment Europe: A Study of Transnational Book Trade In the age of Enlightenment, when knowledge was rapidly evolving and spreading across Europe, books played a vital role in shaping the minds of intellectuals and laypeople alike. However, the traditional field of book history has long been divided into discrete national histories, neglecting the fact that books have seldom respected national borders. In this groundbreaking study, Jeffrey Freedman challenges this paradigm by examining one of the most important axes of the transnational book trade in Enlightenment Europe - the circulation of French books throughout Germany and beyond. The Circulation of French Books Freedman begins by exploring the critical role of book dealers as cultural intermediaries, tracing French books from their production in French-language printing shops to their distribution at wholesale book fairs in Leipzig and retail bookshops scattered throughout Germany. Despite authorities' attempts to curtail their circulation, French books freely circulated in Germany due to the political fragmentation of the German lands, where censorship was virtually nonexistent.
The Circulation of French Books Freedman

The Circulation of French Books Freedman, kitapçıların kültürel aracılar olarak kritik rolünü araştırarak, Fransızca kitapların Fransızca basım evlerindeki üretiminden ipzig'deki toptan kitap fuarlarına ve Almanya'ya dağılmış perakende kitapçılarına dağıtımına kadar takip ederek başlar. Yetkililerin tirajlarını azaltma girişimlerine rağmen, sansürün neredeyse hiç olmadığı Alman topraklarının siyasi parçalanması nedeniyle Fransız kitapları Almanya'da serbestçe dağıtıldı.
Books Without Borders in Education Europe: A Study of the Transnational Book Trade
