Book Description: Just Politics Human Rights and the Foreign Policy of Great Powers Cornell Studies in Security Affairs Author: C. William Walldorf Jr. Publisher: Cornell University Press Publication Date: March 20, 2019 Pages: 320 Genre: Political Science, International Relations, Human Rights Summary: In "Just Politics: Human Rights and the Foreign Policy of Great Powers C. William Walldorf Jr. challenges the conventional wisdom that elite policymakers in liberal democracies consistently ignore humanitarian norms when they conflict with commercial and strategic interests. Through detailed studies of British alliances with the Ottoman Empire and Portugal in the nineteenth century, as well as US partnerships with countries such as South Africa, Turkey, Greece, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Chile, and Argentina during the Cold War, Walldorf demonstrates that human rights concerns have often led democratic great powers to terminate vital strategic partnerships, even when it has not been in their interest to do so. He argues that failure to take humanitarian considerations into account will damage long-term strategic objectives and that Western governments must integrate human rights into their foreign policies to ensure their survival and the unification of people in a warring state.
Just Politics Human Rights and the Foreign Policy of Great Powers Cornell Studies in Security Affairs Автор: C. William Walldorf Jr. Издатель: Cornell University Press Дата публикации: 20 марта 2019 года Страницы: 320 Жанр: политология, международные отношения, права человека Резюме: В «Just Politics: Human Rights and the Foreign Policy of Great Powers» C. Уильям Вальдорф-младший бросает вызов общепринятому мнению, что элитные политики в либеральных демократиях постоянно игнорируют гуманитарные нормы, когда они вступают в противоречие с коммерческими и стратегические интересы.

On dokuzuncu yüzyılda Osmanlı İmparatorluğu ve Portekiz ile İngiliz ittifakları hakkında ayrıntılı çalışmalar yaparak, ABD'nin Güney Afrika gibi ülkelerle ortaklıklarının yanı sıra, Soğuk Savaş döneminde Türkiye, Yunanistan, Salvador, Nikaragua, Şili ve Arjantin, Waldorf, insan hakları konularının, demokratik büyük güçlerin, kendi çıkarları olmasa bile hayati stratejik ortaklıkları sona erdirmesine yol açtığını göstermektedir. İnsani düşüncelerin dikkate alınmamasının uzun vadeli stratejik hedeflere zarar vereceğini ve Batılı hükümetlerin hayatta kalmalarını ve savaşan bir devlette insanların birleşmesini sağlamak için insan haklarını dış politikalarına entegre etmeleri gerektiğini savunuyor.
